I am so sorry what about his career manager?
Martin was having shin splints a few weeks ago and they had him in a self paced work out waiver so his splints would heal and he'd be ready for the PT test on the 18th (yesterday). They knew he had flat feet before he even swore in. My friend said they prescribe you special shoes but he didnt get to. They also said if his shin's dont heal or he doesnt pass the test, he'd be medically discharged.
He called yesterday saying “I have bad news, I’m being discharged“. His shin splints arent even the reason. Apparently he has PT Tendinitis . They said the arch on his foot was fine but a certain muscle is like pushing down on the arch which can cause it to be problematic and its discharge-able. So they turned in his discharge papers and transferred him to a different unit. They said if he was able to get rid of it, he can try again in 2 years if he feels he can do it. But that it was almost impossible to get rid of it.
So they didnt even check his shins or let him take the test. He's coming home in 3 weeks.
I feel so bad for him. I still want to get married but my parents are suddenly making a big deal out of this. As if this isnt enough to deal with. I'm so upset right now. And it makes me more upset knowing he's still over there, I cant imagine how he feels right now. And I cant be there to make him feel better.

It's not 2 years, it is 6 month minimum. It is not an automatic discharge, but you do have the option to take the discharge if you want to. I had this in boot camp, and with proper care and rest, it takes about 3-6 weeks to rebuild the tendon. It's not like it is a chronic problem that is never going to heal. Sounds like he/you didn't get the proper information.
So after six months, he can try again? He had about 2 weeks for it to heal, but they were concerned about his shin and not his tendon. And he didnt have a choice, they just discharged him. He was ready and determined to pass this test, it sucks they didnt give him a chance to do it. But he is on a waiting hold for 3 weeks. I'll bring this up with him next time he calls! Thank you for this information. It seriously brightened up my day!
Shin splints have an average healing time of about 3 weeks also. I don't know, maybe the Air Force doesn't have a Physical Therapy Rehabilitation platoon or something like it............but we had the opportunity in boot camp, where if we were hurt, and wanted to continue, that we could.
Im sorry. Hopefully he can try it again when he heals.
hugs, i hope you can get this fixed... big hugs!!!
